Voicing: Cambiata (F#3 – F#4), Baritone (C#3 – B3) or Treble (C#4 – B4) and piano.
Notes: The main verse melody is sung by the Cambiata line, with the second part (Baritone or Treble) joining in on every second phrase; the call and response-like structure/texture builds confidence.
Nonetheless, the melody is shared between parts during the piece with the second (Baritone or Treble) part singing the tune in the third (minor key) verse.
The arrangement offers lots of opportunities for people to sing ‘in role’, whether as the swagman, the farmer, the soldiers or the ghost!
